Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE once tried to recruit him following a dip in Monday Night RAW’s ratings. Speaking on the November 1st edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said he received a call from WWE executive Ed Cohen shortly after the show’s viewership slipped below the 4.0 mark.
According to Meltzer, Cohen claimed the pitch was his own idea, but he doubted that was true. Meltzer turned down the offer immediately, saying he had “no interest at all” in joining WWE. “I wanted to be a writer,” he said, clarifying that he never wanted to become a booker or wrestler.
Meltzer also mentioned that WWE later tried to reach out to Bryan Alvarez through him, believing Alvarez could bring humor and creativity to the company. That proposal also went nowhere, as Alvarez reportedly didn’t think he’d “last a week there.”
