AEW may soon face its biggest challenge yet — and it’s not from WWE. According to Deadline, Netflix has hired Moelis & Co to evaluate a potential bid for part of Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT and TBS — AEW’s television homes.
If Netflix acquires WBD’s streaming or studio assets, it could trigger a massive media shakeup. AEW’s shows, Dynamite and Collision, rely on WBD’s cable networks, and Netflix executives have long said they have “no interest in owning legacy media networks.”
This move is especially concerning given Netflix’s 10-year deal with WWE, making WWE the centerpiece of its sports entertainment strategy. If AEW loses its WBD partnership, it could be forced to seek a new broadcast home just as its ratings and attendance have begun to slump.
