Mike Tenay Considered for WWE x AAA Worlds Collide Commentary Role

Legendary announcer Mike Tenay was reportedly discussed as a potential commentator for the upcoming WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event—but it doesn’t look like he’ll be part of the broadcast team.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tenay’s name came up during internal conversations for the show. The connection is fitting: Tenay made his announcing debut during the original When Worlds Collide in 1994, a landmark collaboration between AAA and WCW that introduced many fans to Lucha Libre.

“We do know there had been discussion of Mike Tenay regarding announcing the show—he started his announcing career doing When Worlds Collide in 1994, but I can’t confirm if he was contacted. But as best as I can tell, he’s not at this point scheduled to do the show,” wrote Dave Meltzer.

Although there's no confirmation that WWE or AAA officially reached out to Tenay, the fact his name came up suggests both companies are taking the presentation of the broadcast seriously. Meltzer also noted that former AAA English-language commentators Joe Dombrowski and Larry Dallas are not scheduled to participate either.

As of now, the commentary team for Worlds Collide remains a mystery, with no official names announced. One familiar voice fans can expect is Lilian Garcia, who confirmed her return on social media:

“It is an honor to make history with them as the Ring Announcer for this spectacular event!”

While Garcia’s return adds nostalgia and excitement, the absence of Tenay—despite his historic ties to the original show—will likely be a missed opportunity for longtime fans. Still, with commentary plans under wraps, there's always the chance for a surprise nod to his legacy.
