Dave Meltzer on Tanahashi vs. Nakamura at Wrestle Kingdom 20: “It’s Not a Done Deal Yet”

Dave Meltzer addressed the growing rumors about a potential Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Shinsuke Nakamura match at Wrestle Kingdom 20, clarifying that while the bout has been discussed, it’s “not a done deal right now.” Meltzer noted that Nakamura’s WWE contract allows him to work in Japan, which keeps the door open for the dream match.

However, he also pointed out that the political dynamics between WWE, AEW, and NJPW make negotiations complicated, referencing the headaches caused when Karl Anderson appeared for New Japan while under WWE contract. Still, Meltzer believes if Tanahashi truly wants to retire against Nakamura, “it should be okay.”
