WWE fans hoping to see SmackDown live on Peacock won’t get their wish anytime soon—and now the reason is clear. Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that NBCUniversal is holding back live streaming in order to protect USA Network’s TV ratings.
Instead of prioritizing Peacock growth, NBC is putting its focus on keeping SmackDown’s weekly numbers strong on cable. Meltzer explained that the 30-day delay before episodes hit streaming proves just how valuable those ratings are to NBC. Meanwhile, other WWE content like Saturday Night’s Main Event is being shifted to Peacock exclusivity. This tug-of-war shows NBCUniversal’s strategy: build Peacock slowly, but not at the expense of its most important weekly show.
