After a rocky 2024 filled with controversy, MJF’s backstage reputation in AEW has reportedly improved significantly in recent months.
According to Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp during a Q&A, MJF has made noticeable efforts to improve how he’s perceived by his peers following a turbulent stretch that included high-profile drama with AEW talent.
“It’s improved a lot over the last nine or ten months, and he’s worked hard at that. There were times when it wasn’t great and the perception of him backstage wasn’t great.”
Much of the scrutiny stemmed from an August 2024 incident with Britt Baker, involving heated words and an alleged outburst backstage. Reports claimed MJF punched a wall following a confrontation over comments Baker made about his relationship with Alicia Atout. Baker was briefly suspended, while MJF faced no apparent consequences—leading to unrest among AEW talent.
In a later interview with Cultaholic Wrestling, MJF denied key parts of the story, calling it exaggerated:
“Almost everything that was written didn’t happen. It was blown out of proportion… because the English wrestling commentary places need clickbait.”
Despite lingering resentment from some, MJF’s behavior over the past year has reportedly won over many in the locker room. Now 29, the former AEW Champion seems to be navigating his role as a top star with more professionalism and awareness.
Whether this is a lasting change or part of a larger career shift remains to be seen, but for now, MJF’s image behind the scenes appears to be on the mend.
