Latest Backstage Report on AEW Continental Classic Plans and Kenny Omega’s Status

A massive main event is officially set for AEW All In 2025, as Kazuchika Okada will collide with Kenny Omega in a blockbuster title unification match.

The announcement was made during this week’s episode of AEW Summer Blockbuster, confirming that the AEW International Championship and AEW Continental Championship will merge into a single title: the AEW Unified Championship.

According to Fightful Select, this match has been planned behind the scenes for nearly a year. AEW reportedly locked in Okada vs. Omega to headline All In 2025 as early as last December—before Omega made his brief return to New Japan Pro Wrestling.

While there was some internal debate about the name of the unified title, AEW never considered reviving the "Intercontinental Championship" moniker. Instead, the AEW Unified Championship is being positioned as a prestigious, top-level prize—well above mid-card status.

The match announcement has already sparked major fan interest. Ticket sales for All In 2025 jumped by over 1,400 in the past week alone following the reveal of the high-stakes bout.

For fans of the AEW Continental Classic, there's no cause for concern—the tournament is expected to remain an annual feature, even with the titles being merged.

And regarding concerns about Kenny Omega’s health after the Summer Blockbuster angle—sources confirmed his apparent injury was purely part of the storyline and not a real issue.
