CM Punk’s unexpected apology at WWE Night of Champions for his infamous 2020 tweet aimed at The Miz and Saudi Arabia wasn’t as spontaneous as it seemed, according to insiders.
During the kickoff show, a fan named Muhammad asked Punk to apologize, leading Punk to deliver a full on-camera apology. But Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio claimed the moment was likely staged, suggesting the fan was a plant to help smooth over Punk’s image with the Saudi audience.
Meltzer argued the apology felt out of character and forced, saying it made Punk look bad even as WWE tried to spin it as a “grown-up” move. Despite the reaction, the segment did succeed in generating plenty of discussion online.
