As previously reported, WWE has officially confirmed that CM Punk will challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions 2025. The highly anticipated bout will take place on Saturday, June 28 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and will stream live on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally.
According to Dave Meltzer on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had long planned for Punk to appear at the Saudi event, with no signs of hesitation from the "Best in the World" regarding his involvement.
“He was going months ago,” Meltzer stated. “I asked about it when the event was first being discussed. He was originally in the promo package and later removed, so I asked if that meant he was off the show. I was told, ‘Nope, he’s going.’ So it’s been known for months, probably all along, that he was part of the plan.”
This development is notable given Punk’s past criticism of WWE’s Saudi Arabia events. After returning to WWE television on WWE Backstage, Punk notoriously exchanged words online with The Miz, firing off a since-deleted tweet saying, “Go suck a blood money covered dck in Saudi Arabia you f**ing dork.” However, the two later patched things up after meeting backstage at WWE RAW in 2023.
With CM Punk vs. John Cena now officially set, the event promises to deliver a marquee championship clash between two of WWE’s biggest stars. The match marks yet another chapter in their storied rivalry, this time with the company’s top title on the line.
