WWE Premium Live Events Could Move To ESPN In 2025, Earlier Than Expected

A major shift could be coming for WWE premium live events, as reports suggest the company may move from Peacock to ESPN platforms much earlier than the originally announced 2026 date. Bryan Alvarez revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that fans could see the switch happen as soon as next month, with the rumored September 20th show, featuring John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, possibly airing on ESPN.

The original five-year, $1.6 billion deal between WWE and ESPN was not scheduled to begin until 2026, but contractual obligations with Peacock may already be met due to WWE adding extra shows such as the second night of SummerSlam and Evolution. If that’s the case, it would clear the path for WWE to begin its lucrative partnership with ESPN earlier than expected.

Backstage Buzz Grows Over Chris Jericho Possibly Returning to WWE

The wrestling world is buzzing about the future of Chris Jericho. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there is “a lot of talk” within both WWE and AEW about the possibility of Jericho returning to WWE once his AEW contract expires later this year.

Meltzer noted that speculation within WWE has even touched on the Royal Rumble, though nothing has been confirmed. Jericho has not appeared on AEW programming since being written off television in April, fueling uncertainty about his status. Adding to the speculation, Jericho recently “liked” a social media post discussing a WWE return.

With his Fozzy touring schedule now complete, Jericho has more flexibility for an in-ring comeback, leaving fans and insiders wondering if WWE could welcome back one of its most decorated legends in 2026.

Danhausen’s AEW Contract Quietly Extended Through 2026 Despite No Creative Plans And Wanting To Leave

Danhausen’s AEW future just got longer—but not necessarily brighter. According to Fightful Select, his contract, originally set to expire July 1, 2025, has been quietly extended by AEW, now carrying him deep into 2026.

Despite being absent from programming for most of 2024, aside from a lone ROH appearance, the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star remains under contract but without any current creative direction. Reports note that Danhausen did not want AEW to pick up the option and was prepared to leave after barely being used the past couple of years.

Sean Ross Sapp also revealed a past miscommunication regarding Danhausen’s availability due to a private family matter, which AEW misread as him shifting back to indies. While he remains a beloved figure and strong merch seller, his future in AEW seems uncertain outside of paperwork.

WWE Naming September 20 Premium Live Event “Wrestlepalooza,” ESPN Broadcast Possible

WWE’s top-secret September 20 Premium Live Event has been named Wrestlepalooza, according to WrestleVotes. The event could also air on ESPN, despite WWE’s broadcast deal with the network not kicking in until April 2026.

PWInsider reported that discussions in the broadcast industry suggest WWE may use this show as a test run for its new TV era. If the ESPN move goes through, it would mark WWE’s first PLE to air on the network. The date also directly conflicts with AEW’s All Out in Toronto, setting up a rare head-to-head clash.

WWE Reportedly Pausing Crown Jewel Championship Storyline for 2025 Event

WWE is reportedly putting the brakes on the Crown Jewel Championship storyline for this year’s Premium Live Event in Perth, Australia. According to BodySlam.net, the October 11th show at RAC Arena will not feature defenses of the men’s or women’s Crown Jewel Championships, which were introduced at last year’s event.

The titles debuted in 2024, with Cody Rhodes and Liv Morgan becoming the inaugural champions while already holding major WWE gold. While WWE is expected to deliver a stacked card in Perth, fans hoping to see those titles defended will have to wait—if the belts return at all.
